Natural homemade tick repellent

My oldest son went camping with his class today, and they will stay there for 5 days.  He was very excited about it, meanwhile I worry a little bit and hope that everything will be OK with him. I’m sure he’ll have a good time, because their teachers will take care of that 🙂 But we are missing him so much 🙁 It’s so strange that he’s not with us. Generally, 5 days just go by so fast, but now it seems, these 5 days will be slower…

But let’s get to the point… I hate chemicals. Although, our home is not yet chemical-free, I am working on this project 🙂 I use more and more natural products at home, and for this camping I wanted to give my son a natural tick repellent as well. So, I made it! But I have to confess that I also bought one at the store, which lasts for 8 hours. Problem is, natural version lasts for only one or two hours, and I don’t think that I can expect my son to spray himself in every or every two hours. So, I gave him that one which lasts for 8 hours, and told him to use that every day. And whenever it occurs to him, just spray himself with the natural one also.

Here is the original recipe which was my starting-point, but in the end I put more from the essential oils in it:

10 ml olive oil
10 drops of lavender essential oil
4 drops of Indian lemon-grass essential oil
4 drops of eucalyptus essential oil (I didn’t have eucalyptus at home, so I used peppermint instead)
4 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
4 drops of Geranium essential oil

I read really good things about this spray, so hopefully it will work 🙂 Actually, beside putting more essential oils in mine, I also put lemon essential oil in it, because most repellents I know also have this as ingredient.

And independently of this camping, whenever we’ll go on an excursion into nature with my family, I will definitely use my homemade natural tick repellent. I think when I’ll also be there we will manage to repeat the spraying in every hour 😉
